Mercedes Sofía Viera

Journalist & Writer.
Nerd & Lover of pretty things.

About

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Mercedes went to the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón with a passion for film. She worked in for Merodea as an editorial intern and realized that was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She created the Femme Now project, an online magazine for style, food and local entrepreneurship. She won the 2017 Girlboss Game Changer Scholarship, was featured on their website, and was able to go to the Girlboss Rally in NYC. Afterwards, she moved to New Jersey and transferred to Rutgers University with a major in Journalism & Media Studies and a minor in Creative Writing.

During her time at Rutgers, she has worked for its chapter of HerCampus, The Daily Targum and the Douglass College Media Team. Mercedes is always starting projects she's passionate about, like Rebeldía --- a digital platform for critical analysis aimed at latine lgbt+ adults with english and spanish articles.

Now in her senior year, she's excited to see what the future holds. Mercedes is passionate about fashion, music, film, comic books, mental health, disability, latine and lgbt+ issues.
